Eagle

Aquila chrysaetos

Sees everything from very far away. Says little.

Only 0.7% of people are Eagles. (estimated)

If you're an Eagle

You see further than anyone and act on it without discussion. Golden eagles hold territories of many square kilometers, hunt alone or with one partner and keep the same nest for generations; you want space, a long view and very few people in it. You are loyal to the one or two who make the cut, and a mystery to everyone else.

The piercing scream dubbed onto eagles in films belongs to a red-tailed hawk; a real golden eagle's call is a thin, surprised yelp.

Find out if you're an Eagle

The Eagle as a spirit animal

Matching an Eagle says you have perspective and the patience to use it: you watch for a long time and then move once. You are self-reliant to a fault, loyal to very few and unbothered by what the crowd thinks. The flaw is distance; it is hard to be understood from that altitude, and you mistake your silence for clarity. Eagles do not scream. People only think they do.

Grounded in how the species actually lives; nothing borrowed from anyone's tradition. Why we put it that way.

How to get along with an Eagle

Do

  • Give them space and a view; crowding an Eagle gets you nothing.
  • Say what you mean once; they heard it the first time.
  • Earn trust slowly and expect it to last once you have it.

Don't

  • Don't take the aloofness personally; the whole species is like that.
  • Don't compete for the high ground. They have been there longer.

When it goes wrong: An Eagle under pressure withdraws upward, going distant and curt; do not chase, state the facts plainly and wait for them to come down on their own terms.

The Eagle in a relationship

You choose once and mean it. Golden eagle pairs stay together for years, defend the same territory and return to the same nest season after season; you love the same way, quietly, fiercely and from a slight height. You will not say much. The nest says it for you.
