Every animal on this site is shown with an engraving from a natural-history book published before 1931, whose author and illustrator died long enough ago for the work to be in the public domain worldwide. The scans come from Wikimedia Commons and the Biodiversity Heritage Library. The engravings were cropped and the paper made transparent; nothing else was changed.
