Gecko

Gekkonidae

Walks on ceilings. Licks own eyeballs. Unbothered.

Only 0.4% of people are Geckos. (estimated)

If you're a Gecko

You go where other people can't, mostly by not asking whether it's allowed. You are quick, curious, nocturnal by preference and oddly good at fitting into small spaces, both physical and social. You turn up on the ceiling of a conversation and leave before the explanation. You are more talkative than people expect, in short bursts, usually after dark.

A gecko's toes grip through millions of microscopic hairs that cling to surfaces at the molecular level, which is why it can walk up glass but struggles on Teflon.

Find out if you're a Gecko

The Gecko as a spirit animal

You are adaptable, quick and unembarrassed, the person who ends up in a place nobody else can reach and is already settled there. You are good company for a few minutes at a time and then you are gone. The flaw is that you shed commitments the way a gecko sheds a tail: fast, under pressure, and without much thought for what grows back. A gecko has no eyelids. It has simply never blinked.

Grounded in how the species actually lives; nothing borrowed from anyone's tradition. Why we put it that way.

How to get along with a Gecko

Do

  • Talk to them in the evening; mornings are for sleeping somewhere warm.
  • Let them climb out of plans without a scene; they will climb back in.
  • Leave the porch light on; they come for what gathers around it.

Don't

  • Don't grab them by the tail, figuratively or otherwise. You will be left holding it.
  • Don't read anything into the unbroken eye contact; they can't blink.

When it goes wrong: A gecko in trouble drops something and runs for a crack; let it go, don't chase, and it will be back on the wall by nightfall.

The Gecko in a relationship

You are drawn to warmth and light, and you tend to show up where they are rather than planning the approach. You are affectionate on your own schedule, which is nocturnal, and you treat commitment as a surface you can let go of if the grip fails. You keep coming back to the same wall, though.
